Alternative Fuel Use on U.S. Military Bases

O2 Diesel, Inc. has developed an oxygenated diesel fuel which test results indicate has a much reduced emission of air pollutants. The Department of Defense (DOD) has become interested in the use of oxygenated diesel fuels for use by the military to reduce the overall diesel emissions on their base, many of which are located in urban areas.

Justice & Associates obtained a ‘Letter of Exemption’ from the Clark County Department of Air Quality & Environmental Management for O2 Diesel to operate their equipment. Justice & Associates prepared all the documentation and procedures needed for the use of an alternative fuel in the military environment. The procedures included training materials for operators and maintenance workers, emergency and safety procedures, fuel and maintenance logs and site specific plans. This DOD funded project was initiated to allow the U.S. Air Force to utilize an alternative diesel fuel in their vehicle fleet. Once favorable results are obtained from this test program the DOD will expand the use of this alternative fuel Air Force wide.
The agencies and companies Justice & Associates worked with included the U.S. Air Force, Department of Defense, Clark County Department of Air Quality & Environmental Management, System Cooling Technologies, Lamb Asphalt Maintenance, Interstate Safety & Supply Inc., and High Desert Petroleum, Inc.
