Compliance with New Underground Storage Tank Requirements

Underground Storage Tank Monthly Inspections

The State Water Resources Control Board adopted changes to the Underground Storage Tank (UST) regulations that went into effect on May 8, 2004. Changes include requirements for the facility to have a Designated UST Operator. A Designated UST Operator must possess a current “California UST System Operator” certification issued by the International Code Council. The designated operator must provide on-the-job training for facility employee(s) annually and perform monthly UST inspections.
Justice & Associates was contracted to be the designated UST Operator for Oglebay Norton Industrial Sands’ Orange County facility. Responsibilities include performing monthly UST Inspections and preparing an Underground Storage Tank compliance binder to aid the facility. In addition, Justice & Associates was in charge of training facility employees in regards to monitoring equipment, spills and overfills and Best Management Practices (BMPs).
